If you aren’t familiar with my MIND diet cookbook or what the MIND diet is, here goes! The MIND diet (stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Disease) is a research-backed eating style that combines both the Mediterannean and DASH (dietary approaches to stop hypertension) diets – both heart healthy eating plans – that provide specific recommendations to support brain health and preserve cognition function.
This might all sound fancy, but what it really means is a simple, wholesome and delicious eating plan with plenty of brain- and heart-healthy foods like leafy green vegetables, berries, whole grains, seafood and poultry, beans and legumes, heart-healthy oils and other nutrient-dense foods like vegetables, eggs and fruit.
Not only is it specific to brain health and the research surrounding nutrients and foods that support it, but the recipes altogether are well-balanced, absolutely delicious and good-for-you.
So, when people ask me who this book is for, I say EVERYONE! We all want to eat amazing food AND support our health, right?! Ok then, it’s settled!
All of these delicious brain-supportive recipes can be yours!
But, in all seriousness, mild cognitive impairment, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease affect millions of people. And for many years, health professionals and researchers weren’t sure what caused cognitive decline or if diet played a role in it.
And although we still don’t have all of the answers, we now know there are lifestyle and nutrition steps we can take that can make a big impact on our brain health (and health overall!).
This cookbook outlines all of those recommendations and provides guidance on how to make it work for you.
As I’ve said many times already – there are SO many delicious recipes in here that I know your entire family will love!
And it feels good knowing they may help reduce the risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases and support the health of everyone we cook for. That’s a great feeling, isn’t it?!
